Welcome to The Australian Council for Educational Research Ltd’s (ABN 19 004 398 145) (“ACER”) Development and Education Conference to be held in Melbourne, Australia from the 11 to 13 November 2025 inclusive and any activities associated with the conference (“the Conference”).

ACER is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in a responsible manner in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This Privacy Statement outlines how ACER collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information during and after the Conference.

Consents

This Privacy Statement contains CONSENTS you give to ACER in respect of your personal information and its collection (sensitive information and recordings) and uses (direct marketing). Collection of Personal Information

As a result of you registering or participating in the Conference ACER will collect your personal information.  Personal information is that information or opinion that tends to identify a particular individual such as name and date of birth.

ACER may collect the following types of personal information from Conference participants:

  • name;
  • contact details (email, phone number, address);
  • professional affiliations and job title;
  • photographs and video recordings; and
  • any other information you provide to acer during the registration process or throughout the Conference.

The only consequence of you not providing your personal information to ACER your application to participate in the Conference may not be able to be processed and it may impact upon the extent of your participation in the Conference.

Use of Personal Information

ACER will only collect, store, use and disclose your personal information for the purpose of processing your application for, administering and promoting the Conference. This includes possible photography, audio, and video recording when you enter an area of the Conference where such is occurring (the Purpose).

By entering the Conference premises, YOU CONSENT to such recording media and its release, publication, exhibition or reproduction. Should you not wish to give this consent please use the contact details specified in the privacy policy indicated below.


Sensitive information

ACER, in pursuing the Purpose, may collect your sensitive information such as membership of a professional association. By ticking the box below YOU CONSENT to ACER collecting, using, storing and disclosing your sensitive information as specified in this Privacy Statement.

Disclosure of your personal information (including sensitive information)

ACER may disclose your personal information (including sensitive information) to:

  1. ACER contractors which may assist ACER in pursuing the Purpose from time to time;
  2. ACER professional advisors, including accountants, lawyers, and auditors; or
  3. where ACER is required to do so by law, to government agencies, or individuals appointed by government.

Transfer of personal information out of Australia

ACER will not transfer your personal information outside of Australia.

Photographs and Recordings

By attending the Conference, YOU CONSENT to being photographed, filmed, or otherwise recorded. These images and recordings may be used by ACER for promotional purposes, including but not limited to, marketing materials, websites, social media, and future event promotions. If you do not wish to be photographed or recorded, please notify us in advance at enquiries@deved.org or inform our staff at the event.

Direct Marketing

YOU CONSENT to ACER using your personal information to contact you with promotional materials and other information that may be of interest to you regarding future events and related opportunities. You can opt out of receiving such communications at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions included in our emails.

Your rights

ACER will abide by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

You have the right to:

1.      inspect your personal information;

2.      request amendment of your personal information; and

3.      make complaint in respect of a breach of your privacy.
